Turkish parliament speaker participated in the conference of EU parliament speakers in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday.

Delivering a speech in the conference, Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin said that Turkey attached a great importance and attention to the future of EU.

“We have been following developments regarding Treaty of Lisbon which entered into force on December 1, 2009. EU will move forward to the future with sound steps thanks to Treaty of Lisbon,” Sahin said. (The treaty introduces sweeping institutional changes designed to streamline decision-making and raise the EU’s stature in international affairs.)

Sahin said this new regulation would strengthen basic rights and freedoms of EU citizens.

“Interparliamentary EU information exchange network should be improved. Cooperation among parliaments should be boosted as well,” he said.
