Greek Citizen’s Protection Minister Michalis Chrysohoidis has sent an open invitation to Turkish Minister of Interior Besir Alatay to discuss illegal immigration and organized crime this month, the Ministry said Monday.

Noting the explosive dimensions the two issues have gained over the past decade, Chrysohoidis called for closer bilateral cooperation to tackle the common challenge.

In his letter, the Greek minister referred to a string of issues that “need further improvement”, such as the Bilateral Readmission Protocol, the cooperation among the two countries’ Port Police Corpses, human trafficking, the fight against smuggling networks and the Readmission Agreement between EU and Turkey.

Greece also called on Turkey to enhance cooperation in fields such as the Quadruple Cooperation between Greece-Turkey-Iran and Pakistan, the possible participation of Afghanistan, and the supply of expertise on asylum issues, trans- border organized crime, drugs and civil protection.
