Macedonia says it has complained to Athens after Greek coast guard officials allegedly chanted racist slogans during a military parade last week. The officers are seen in an Internet-posted video participating in a Greek Independence Day parade last week in Athens and chanting racist slogans against neighboring Albania, Macedonia and Turkey. Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry said Monday the chanting was “unacceptable and inappropriate.” Greek Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou said Thursday’s incident was isolated and does not “reflect the mood, the mentality and the sentiments of the Greek people.” The Greek government one officer from an elite coast guard unit has been suspended and others are being investigated.
