During the visit, the Turkey-Greece High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will convene for the first time. The council will be co-chaired by Erdoğan and his Greek counterpart, George Papandreou.Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, State Minister Zafer Cağlayan, State Minister and chief negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bağış, Interior Minister Beşir Atalay, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, Education Minister Nimet Çubukçu, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yıldız, Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay, Transportation Minister Binali Yıldırım and Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroğlu will also be in attendance at the meeting.
Turkey and Greece agreed to convene the council twice annually.
During his stay in Athens, Turkey’s prime minister will be received by Greek President Karolos Papoulias, and is set to hold talks with Papandreou as well as Greece’s main opposition leader, Antonis Samaras. Erdoğan will receive a delegation from the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
A crowded delegation of Turkish businessmen will accompany the prime minister during the visit to attend the Turkey-Greece Business Forum.
Erdoğan also plans to visit the new Acropolis Museum in Athens.
