A groundbreaking trip to Greece by Turkey’s leader is being seen as a sea change in relations between the long-time rivals.
The two regional rivals made a dramatic U-turn, pledging mutual support and friendship as Turkey’s prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, began his historic visit to Athens.
Accompanied by 10 of his ministers, the Turkish leader arrived saying he wanted to help debt-stricken Greece.
In an unprecedented step, the once sworn enemies signed 21 cooperation accords in fields as diverse as tourism and technology, and openly discussed scaling back on the costly arms race that has long divided them.
