Russia will pay back $60 million in Soviet-era debt to Macedonia in goods, Deputy Russian Finance Minister Dmitry Pankin said on Saturday.
In a deal to be signed later in the day, Macedonia will pledge to buy $76 million worth of Russian goods, $60 million of which will be covered by the debt, Pankin said. For the remainder, it will pay $16 million in cash.
Russia will also help Macedonia rebuild its gas transport system over the next 5 years, Pankin said.
A Russian government source has said that Macedonia is among countries expressing interest in joining the South Stream gas transit system project.
