UN mediator Matthew Nimetz is expected to offer a new compromise proposal next month in the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, local A1 TV reported on Sunday (August 22nd). Government officials say Nimetz is in contact with Skopje and Athens. The Greek daily Kathimerini reported at the weekend that Macedonia and Greece are being pressured to resolve the long-standing dispute before NATO’s November summit in Lisbon. According to the media, the name issue will be discussed by Alliance foreign ministers at their meeting in New York next month.
